Wakaw Roads, A Northern Bridge Repair and Rosthern Culverts

Saskatchewan Highways Construction Update

Today, Highways Minister Kim Gartner highlighted a pair of Wakaw area road projects, culvert work near Rosthern and a northern bridge repair, while reminding drivers to stay alert and be patient.

"Drive to current conditions, pay attention to the road ahead and obey all construction signs and flag persons, as our crews and contractors work to improve our highway network," Gartner said. "We want everyone to get home safely."

Some highlights of recent and ongoing provincial highways projects include:

• Wakaw south - An estimated $27.2 million project will see more than 17 km of Highway 2 between Wakaw and Cudworth rebuilt and two culverts replaced following by paving. Grading work is currently underway on the project. Tree clearing work began the week of March 30 with roadwork starting mid May. The entire project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

• Wakaw north - The ministry will invest $2.7 million to improve about six kilometres of Highway 2 north of Wakaw. The work involves paving and began May 19, 2026. Paving has now been completed with final project completion expected by late fall 2026.

• Rosthern west - About $800,000 was invested to replace three culverts for Highway 312 about 13 km west of Rosthern. Work began June 17 and was completed July 9.

• St. George's Hill area - About $100,000 in repairs began and were completed in June on Highway 925 bridge over the Dillon River. The project included installation of steel pier piles to address damage caused by ice during spring run-off.

Project timelines are always subject to weather.

With this year's budget, the Government of Saskatchewan has invested more than $14.6 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008, improving more than 22,700 kilometres of highways across the province.
