WAMC, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune Advance Regional Medical Readiness

FORT BRAGG, N.C. --Leaders from Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC) and Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune (NMCCL) recently met to welcome newly assigned leaders, exchange best practices and reinforce a shared commitment to proactive collaboration across the region in support of the Joint Force. The engagement focused on strengthening inter-service communication, aligning operational capabilities and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and problem-solving within the military health enterprise. Our focus is on building deliberate, collaborative relationships that enhance readiness and improve how we care for those we serve,” said Col. Kane Morgan, WAMC commander. “Working closely with our partners across the region ensures our Soldiers, families and beneficiaries receive the highest quality medical support.”

The visit provided WAMC and NMCCL leaders an opportunity to strengthen coordination, exchange best practices and identify ways to improve joint medical readiness across the region.

“The primary purpose of this engagement is to forge actionable, joint-force partnerships that directly enhance regional medical readiness,” said Capt. Kathryn M. Stewart, commander and director, Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune. “At NMCCL, our priority is ensuring our medical personnel and operational forces are prepared to meet strategic demands.”

Stewart said close collaboration between NMCCL and WAMC enables the organizations to share best practices, streamline clinical pathways and optimize resources across service branches.

“Both medical centers service significant patient volumes and critical trauma missions,” Stewart said. “By unifying our efforts, we boost regional healthcare capacity and ensure our service members, whether they be Marine Corps, Navy or Army, are fully supported and medically mission ready.”

During the discussion, both command teams emphasized the importance of transparency, early coordination and leveraging organizational strengths to address challenges at the lowest level. Leaders also highlighted ongoing initiatives that may be adaptable across departments to enhance joint readiness and improve health service delivery. Following the meeting, the NMCCL) command team toured the Emergency Department and Labor and Delivery units and met with Operating Room leadership and staff to gain a deeper understanding of WAMC’s operational capabilities and current clinical workflows. Leaders engaged directly with staff, asked questions and identified shared priorities in joint mission requirements. The visit also provided visibility into practices currently in use at one facility that may support efficiency or continuous improvement efforts at the other.

Looking ahead, Stewart said NMCCL views the partnership as a unified commitment to warfighter readiness. The commands plan to explore opportunities to integrate and leverage strengths across mental health care networks, vital blood supply chains, and academic and clinical research advancements.

The engagement reinforced a unified commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement and delivering high-quality support to Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, families and beneficiaries across the region.
