As AI-altered faces enter the rhinoplasty conversation, Dr Aykut Özpür discusses anatomy, breathing and the limits of digitally generated surgical goals.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, October 27, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ISTANBUL, Türkiye — Artificial intelligence can produce a new facial profile in seconds. Whether that profile can be achieved through rhinoplasty is a different question. As AI-generated images enter cosmetic surgery consultations, Istanbul plastic surgeon Dr Aykut Özpür is addressing the gap between a compelling digital image and an achievable surgical plan.

The issue received attention in a September 18, 2026 article from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), which described patients bringing AI-enhanced versions of their own faces to consultations. The discussion highlighted the difficulty of treating a digitally perfected image as an expected surgical outcome.

When an Edited Image Becomes a Surgical Goal

“A reference image can help a patient explain a preference. The next step is to identify what that preference means on their own face. We need to discuss the requested change, the structures supporting the nose and how the proposed result would relate to the rest of the face,” says Özpür.

His published rhinoplasty information describes examining the nasal bones, cartilage, skin and airway before selecting a surgical approach. That assessment gives a consultation a clinical starting point beyond the appearance of a photograph.

For patients, a useful distinction is whether an image illustrates a general preference or presents an exact result they expect a surgeon to reproduce. A discussion about a bridge contour or tip position allows specific questions to be examined. An assumption that every feature in a generated portrait is surgically attainable leaves those questions unanswered.

Considering Breathing Alongside Appearance

ASPS consultation guidance includes both appearance and breathing goals, as well as previous surgery, medical conditions and medication use. That information helps establish the scope of an individual assessment and the issues that require discussion before treatment.

“When someone asks for a smaller or more refined nose, the discussion must also include support and breathing. A proposed change needs to make sense for that patient’s anatomy. An attractive screen image does not answer those clinical questions or guarantee how tissue will heal,” Özpür adds.

Patients can make the conversation more specific by bringing unedited photographs alongside any altered image and identifying the exact feature they want to discuss. The consultation can then address what is feasible, what the trade-offs are and whether the proposed operation matches their expectations.

For Americans researching rhinoplasty in Turkey, the practical question is how the surgeon translates an aesthetic request into an individual treatment plan. The role of a visual reference is to support that conversation, with the clinical examination determining the options.
